at Lake County History Center, 415 Riverside Drive, Painesville, Ohio 44077
Do ghosts and spirits really haunt the former Lake County Poorhouse? Come take a walk through the long dark corridors with nothing but a candlelight to illuminate the way. Escape into the past as our guides provide you with an eerie yet fun-filled adventure! You'll visit all the locations around the Lake County History Center where shadows and ghostly figures have said to have been sighted. You'll go to off-limits areas where many have reported hearing creepy sounds and feeling unseen hands touch them. You'll hear stories of unbelievable historically documented events that have taken place in the past, including those in the infirmary and attic. And, we'll even visit the foreboding cells used in the bygone days of the Lake County Poorhouse. We will demonstrate and you may borrow "ghost hunting" equipment, such as EMF detectors and dowsing rods, while on your tour! (or bring your own equipment – paranormal activity has been documented many times on previous explorations of the LCHS)

Living History Tours at Oberlin's Westwood Cemetery

Enjoy a fascinating, family-friendly (and non-frightening) look at local history this Halloween season when the Heritage Center presents an autumn stroll through Westwood Cemetery featuring tales of early Oberlin citizens told by costumed interpreters of the past. This year's one-hour guided tour introduces new characters and their stories focusing on medicine, diet, and health in Oberlin. Reservations should be made in advance and tickets are $10 for adults/$5 for children (most likely to be enjoyed by ages 7 and up) or $8 adults/$4 children for OHC members. The tour begins at 4:00 p.m. each day, and participants should gather at the cemetery entrance (429 Morgan Street). This event filled up quickly last year, so make your reservations early!

Make a reservation - click here.

Photo: Last year's fall cemetery tour included OHC Board Member Judy Cook (at right) portraying Adelia Field Johnston, the first female faculty member at Oberlin College (1878) who later became Dean of Women.

The Apple Cabin is once again the worst nightmare in Medina County! 24 years of thrills and scares, same location! It is said that anyone who entered past the apple orchard and through the Lodi haunted forest near Medina beware of the worst fate that could await you. The old Smith house on the Ohio property has long been torn down. They say the people who lived there were shot to death and still haunt the grounds. Everyone knew years back that if they went into the haunted forest, they might not return. The elders of Medina County had told everyone that it was forbidden to go past the apple orchard. The haunted forest has been abandoned for years, when people went in they never returned. No one could take a step inside the haunted forest and no one had dared to. No one was brave enough.

If inclement weather is forecasted, please call ahead. Nightmares begin at 7:30pm and tickets are sold until 11:30pm. Dates and hours are subject to change.
