Visit Massillon Millionaires' Row
Date: July 22, 2018
Time: 1 PM
Location: Massillon, OH

Saunter through Massillon's historic Fourth Street neighborhood to discover its architectural beauty and intriguing history, then step inside the town's grandest mansion, Five Oaks, for an interior tour of the lavish residence.

The Massillon Heritage Foundation and Margy Vogt will collaborate on Sunday, July 22, to offer back-to-back tours of Five Oaks and Massillon's National Register district—historic Fourth Street. Guests may take one or both tours.

At 1:00 p.m., local historian Margy Vogt will lead a walking tour of the historic Fourth Street neighborhood, strolling along the brick street to savor the architectural details of the 19th- and early 20th-century mansions. Participants will hear the stories of former residents: a conductor on the Underground Railroad, the grandfather of author Jack London, and an internationally famous classical singer. Did actress Lillian Gish really own a house on Fourth Street?

The walk encompasses six blocks of Massillon's finest old neighborhood, where residences represent more than a century of architectural excellence. The first homes were built in the early 1830s; the last was constructed in 1938.

No reservations are required for the outdoor tour. The $7 per person fee may be paid upon arrival. Copies of Vogt's pictorial history of the neighborhood, Fourth Street: A Century of History and Design, will be available ($14) after the walking tour.

LINCOLN HIGHWAY CAR SHOW
Saturday - August 12, 2017
The Ashland Area Convention and Visitors Bureau presents the 12th Annual Lincoln Highway Car Show. There will be four classes: car, truck, rod and a special featured model to be announced. Car owners will serve as judges and awards will be presented at 2:30pm. There will be a dj, food, and door prizes. Dash plaques and goodie bags to the first 100 registrants. Proud to be on the Lincoln Highway and participate in the annual Lincoln Highway Buy-Way Yard Sale event. The Lincoln Highway was the first transcontinental highway for automobiles across the United States of America. Conceived in 1912 by Indiana entrepreneur Carl G. Fisher, and formally dedicated October 31, 1913, the Lincoln Highway ran coast-to-coast from Times Square in New York City to Lincoln Park in San Francisco, originally through 13 states: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Nevada, and California. In 1915, the "Colorado Loop" was removed, and in 1928, a realignment relocated the Lincoln Highway through the northern tip of West Virginia. Thus, there are a total of 14 states, 128 counties, and more than 700 cities, towns and villages through which the highway passed at some time in its history. Location: International Women's Air & Space Museum
1501 N Marginal Rd Ste 165, Cleveland, Ohio 44114

Join us as we welcome original member of the Mercury 13, Wally Funk, for a presentation and book signing. Funk, who now has over 18,000 hours of flight time, went through testing at Lovelace Clinic in the early 1960s to try to become one of the first female astronauts. Thirteen women (known as the Mercury 13) qualified for this program and passed all of the tests, only to have the program shut down by Congress. It was over 20 years later when America finally had a female astronaut. After the cancellation of the program, Funk continued to fly as a goodwill ambassador, taught over 3,000 students as a flight instructor, and was the first female to be an Air Safety Investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board. She has participated in several air races, appeared on various television and radio programs, and enjoys encouraging young people to get into aviation. Funk still hopes to get into space as part of the Virgin Galactic Space program.

Dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. with presentation and signing to follow.
